Halloween Quest 1

This year's quest!

A quest you say? To accomplish within the year you say? Fine! I accept the challenge!

This year, my fiance and I want to go as Gimli and his long-lost sister (obviously long-lost because J.R.R Tolkein never talks about her) Kimli. This means beards, padding, axes, pretty much everything, including for myself. Yes, this woman shall make herself a bearded Dwarf all for the sake of having a crap-load of fun on the funnest day of the year.

The true quest? Well, one, get two costumes done in a little less than a year. And two, show all you lovely folks how it's done by a normal person to create professional results...Hopefully... I say this because above all, I am a major perfectionist. I don't just make something; I craft. In everything I want to do really good in, I take the time to look things up, get several ideas and find several methods of doing things before I actually pick a method (or make one) and implement it.

Yeah, it's Gimli all badass

This pic doesn't belong to me, I'm borrowing it to show the gist of my and my fiance's future Halloween costume. Thanks!

So, what's first?

Well, I'll answer that. The first thing is to make the list of approximately everything I need to create my Dwarf costumes.

First, and most importantly, the beards. We can probably include wigs in this one because it can sometimes be braided into the beard. But above all, this is by far the most important step since the beards are the pride and glory of the Dwarven race. "NOT THE BEARD!" ~Gimli

Second, the clothing. Yeah, I get it. Clothing, pshaw! You need frickin' ARMOR baby!! Yeah, let's see you make armor you skeptical thing you. I've decided to make ceremonial clothing for both our costumes because one: leather/metal is expensive. Two: in the case of metal, ain't no way I'm going to black smith armor. And three: you can do so many creative things with ceremonial dress. ^-^

Third, I just know that humans aren't all stout and crap, so I just know that padding is a must. That's right, shoulder pads, biceps, chest, abs, you name it, it's probably going to need padding. As a second thought, this should go well...second because there is no way I can know the size of the clothing before I know the size of the padding. I'm clarvoiant, but not by that much.

Fourth, make up. Damn straight men, you heard me right. Make up! Yes, scream, run in terror, but I'm telling you. If you want to be a good Dwarf, you have to look hardened and maybe a little dirty. But check this. How much fun is this going to be?! I already know the colors I'm going to use, so there's a little brain power saved there. And to admit, this is going to be the easiest part. Also, this includes prothetic noses. Alas that I have a cute little button nose, and my hunny has a sharp-ish nose, and neither works as a good Dwarf nose.

Okay, so what's next?

Heh...eheh, yeah, that's the fun part. What's next is looking for all of the stuff to do it. There are a few basic things that I'll explain in the next hub because I know at least three things will be carried over from beard to the make up and maybe even the padding, but who knows. We'll see. I hope you enjoy all of the tutorials, I really hope you like the ending results and I desperately hope I get it finished in time.

And just a note, don't feed the trolls. Love them to death, but please, don't feed them. ^-^
